The Commercial Analyst supports the execution of The Container Store’s commercial and assortment strategies through data-driven analysis, supplier collaboration, and cross-functional communication. This role monitors supplier SKU availability validates open stock assumptions, flags supplier-constrained items and makes (or prepares for Product Operations) purchase order adjustments to support forecasted inventory levels on SKUs managed on John Galt replenishment by the Demand Planners. The Analyst leads day-to-day supplier communications for TCS initiated purchase order updates, including quantity or delivery changes, ensuring operational accuracy and alignment. Leveraging analytical insights, this role supports the development of store- and SKU-level assortment recommendations, evaluates new product flow opportunities from existing suppliers, and contributes to the planning of strategic sets and resets such as seasonal or departmental updates. Working closely with Visual Merchandising and Field Leadership, the Commercial Analyst also informs planogram recommendations and ensures that assortment and inventory strategies come to life effectively across all store locations. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze supplier SKU availability to validate open stock assumptions, identify constraints, and ensure alignment with forecasted demand.
- Provide inputs and follow up on requests from Demand Planners and Location Planners.
- Partner to in support of Commercial activities that drive 99% service levels on SKUs that are actively managed on replenishment.
- Manage TCS initiated supplier communications related to purchase orders, including updates to quantities, delivery dates, or product flow timing.
- Support execution of the company’s commercial and assortment strategies by translating business objectives into data-driven product and inventory decisions.
- Analyze the store/SKU assortment matrix to recommend optimal product breadth and depth by location, based on performance and financial goals.
- Update and maintain merchandise attributes critical to strategically plan and manage the business including merch SKU ranking, department SKU ranking, collection.
- Conduct SKU, and store-level performance analysis to identify sales trends, product lifecycle stages, and opportunities for exit or store assortment optimization
- Evaluate and recommend new product introductions, flow strategies, and supplier opportunities aligned with the assortment strategy and business objectives.
- Partner with Commercial, Visual, and Field Leadership teams to inform planogram updates, seasonal resets, and strategic product sets.
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools to track key metrics such as sell-through, in-stock rates, and supplier fill rates, providing actionable insights to leadership.
- Leverage data analytics and visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel) to monitor performance, model scenarios, and support strategic decision-making across Commercial and Supply Chain teams.
Experience Education, Certifications and Affiliations:
- College degree, preferred
- 3 + years of experience in vendor management, store planning, forecasting, inventory management, supply chain, or related field
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistics, forecasting, and forecasting methods with an understanding of their financial and operational impacts.
- Demonstrated proficiency using root cause analysis to improve forecast accuracy and demand planning processes.
- Ability to independently identify and resolve problems or take advantage of opportunities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, decision-making, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with all teams, areas, and levels of business affecting the forecasting process.
