Responsibilities

 

The Distribution Inventory Systems Manager position is responsible for achieving the operational and financial objectives for the Distribution Center, ensuring a cost-effective operation, as well as efficient utilization of the facility. This position is responsible for the accurate reflection of inventory within the Distribution Center along with the successful deployment of tasks utilizing the warehouse management system.  Working closely with the distribution leadership team, this position oversees and directs the Custom Order Fulfillment, Inventory Control and System Planning teams while working closely with Stores, Buying, Merchandising and Accounting.  This is a full-time, on-site, salaried, exempt position at our Aberdeen, MD facility.

  • Inventory management and optimization

    • Track inventory: Design and implement a system to accurately monitor current stock levels in real time, using software, barcoding, or RFID technology.
    • Conduct audits: Lead cycle counts and periodic physical inventories to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
    • Optimize processes: Continuously evaluate and improve inventory control procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
    • Manage costs: Develop strategies to control inventory costs, including storage, handling, and waste reduction. 

    Warehouse operations

    • Oversee staff: Manage and train a team of 10 - 14 inventory and warehouse clerks, delegating tasks and creating work schedules.
    • Maintain standards: Ensure the warehouse operates according to company policies, safety protocols, and regulations.
    • Manage layout: Work to optimize the warehouse layout for efficient storage, picking, packing, and shipping.
    • Handle equipment: Oversee the safe operation of warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, and manage its maintenance. 
    • Maintain and manage warehouse RF devices and troubleshoot broken or repairable assets.

    Collaboration and communication

    • Coordinate with departments: Work closely with cross-functional teams like purchasing, sales, and logistics to align inventory strategies with business goals.
    • Report to management: Generate detailed reports on stock levels, turnover rates, adjustments, and procedural efficiency for upper management.

Qualifications

What You Bring To Us

  • A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field is often preferred.
  • 4 - 7 years of progressive IC control leadership experience.
  • Professional certifications, such as the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), are often a plus. 
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management and Labor Management Systems required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word are a must
  • Data interpretation skills with ability to recommend solutions
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment 
  • Ability to travel 10% a year, based on the business needs
  • Experience managing others including career development, directing and evaluating work
  • Committed to working scheduled hours and has the flexibility to work a varied schedule and additional hours based on changing business needs
  • Knowledge of industry business and passion for following trends in the industry
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels within and outside the organization
  • Ability to quickly separate the mission-critical tasks from the lower priority tasks; focuses on the most value-added projects of the day or week
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
