Overview

The Assistant Buyer position is responsible for supporting the Buyer in selecting products and setting merchandise directives for the stores and our online store. This position will be focusing on the closet merchandise category. This position is actively involved in supply chain management, forecasting, inventory turn, maintaining competitive pricing and attaining margin goals. This position will collaborate with other departments to provide product information and communicate training needs.

Responsibilities

 

  • Maintains a broad area of focus among multiple categories; addresses seasonal changes as the business dictates
  • Creates and maintains SKU and vendor information
  • Manages promotional and campaign products
  • Involved in identifying opportunities for products that truly differentiate the company as the storage and organization experts, considering TCS product performance, competitive product in the market and customer feedback
  • Understands the company’s forecasting system and fundamentals of supply chain management
  • Analyzes reports, draws conclusions and recommends courses of action
  • Prepares for and actively participates in vendor meetings
  • Prepares and assists in buying Strategic Direction Meetings
  • Conducts competitive shopping to recommend pricing
  • Establishes positive vendor relationships to obtain the best pricing and terms possible, while striving to make the relationships mutually beneficial
  • Acts as a Buying Department representative to stores, customers and other departments

Qualifications

  • College degree required
  • Experience in the retail industry, preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in buying, merchandising or design industry
  • Based in Dallas/Ft. Worth area on a hybrid schedule 
  • Ability to travel 5% a year, based on the business needs
  • Strong computer skills: proficiency in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and knowledge of Excel
  • Strong knowledge of merchandising terminology, functions and analysis including retail math
  • Ability to learn and comprehend merchandising systems, forecasting systems and the fundamentals of supply chain management
  • Passion for consumer products and home décor
  • High taste level and strong point of view in design and ability to articulate The Container Store brand
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
